SAFETY INFORMATION
Emergency drills are held periodically to acquaint your child with evacuation and other emergency procedures. This may make quite an impression on your child the first time a drill is held, but your child will soon become accustomed to it and know just what to do. Complete emergency plan guidelines are available for your review upon request. If it does become necessary to evacuate this facility for an emergency, we will go as a group to the home of (Jana Dunn at 335 Ridgecrest Dr. in Hyrum phone 435-245-3572) and you will be able to pick up your child there.

EMERGENCY PLAN
In the event of an emergency at Serena’s Magical Child Care, the following procedures will be implemented:
All parents will be notified as soon as possible.
At this time I have no substitute available so you would need to pick up your child if the facility needs to be closed.

FIRST AID
Child care providers have all been trained in first aid and CPR procedures. We make every effort to ensure the safety of your child. Unfortunately, minor accidents may occur. Any injuries will be handled on a case by case basis. First aid will be administered as needed and parents will be notified of all actions through completed incident reports. Incident reports are to be read, signed by both the parent and the provider, and kept on file at the facility. A copy of the report is available to the parent upon request.

INCLEMENT WEATHER
Children will need to bring appropriate outer clothing to be comfortable outside. Outdoor experiences are a part of our curriculum except in extreme weather conditions. Children who are unable to participate in outside play because of illness should not be at the child care.

 MEDICATION POLICY
We will not administer medications without completion of a Medication Form. This form is provided upon request. All prescriptions must be in the original bottle. If you are concerned about forgetting the medication at the end of the day, your pharmacist will provide another bottle with the typed prescription if you request it.
All medication is stored in a locked cabinet or in a separate designated area in the refrigerator where it inaccessible to children. Any unused medication will be either returned to the parent or properly disposed of when no longer needed.

HEALTH INFORMATION
Parents will provide Serena’s Magical Child Care with documentation of a physical examination of their child by a licensed physician. They must also provide proof that their child has received all immunizations required by state law. This information must be provided for each child upon enrollment. Additionally, a “Child’s Health Assessment” form will be updated annually.

ILLNESS
Children will not be admitted for care if they are sick unless arrangements are made in advance for us to provide for that condition. If a child shows signs of illness while they are at Serena’s Magical Child Care, parent or other emergency contact will be notified immediately and the sick child will be isolated from the group to prevent possible spread of illness to other children. Parents are expected to pick up sick children within one hour of notification. All parents will be given written notification when any communicable disease is discovered at this facility on the day of its discovery. The names of children and clients will remain confidential in such an event.

INFECTION CONTROL
All Children are taught to wash their hands before and after eating and toileting. This helps reduce the factors that cause infection and disease.
Rubber gloves are used by caregivers for diaper changes and toileting accidents. Hands are washed after each change. Caregivers also wash the infants’ hand. This practice encourages positive sanitation habits in later developmental stages.

 PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS
Cultural celebrations are an important part of children’s lives. My child care will strive to cele3brate such events in the true meaning and spirit of their intent. Parents are encouraged to be involved as much as possible in these celebrations. If you have traditions or celebrations that your culture observes, please share this information so that we may all benefit from it. Interfering with daily schedules for observance of cultural celebrations will be avoided whenever possible.

FIELD TRIPS AND OUTINGS
Field trips are an excellent tool used to enhance and support the curriculum we offer. Parent permission slips will be given in advance when these activities take place. Please make sure the permission slip is completed and have your child attend. We will carry with us all emergency information regarding the children who attend the activity. Please be aware that generally children will not be transported in the car, most of the field trips offered will be within walking distance.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS
Each parent is responsible for providing their child with a blanket marked with their child’s name. Blankets will need to be taken home each week to be washed. Children will not be allowed to bring personal toys or other belongings. Children must also bring and extra change of clothing to be used in case of accidents or spills. Each day parents will need to supply diapers, wipes, and any ointments required for their child.

CLOTHING
Children should wear comfortable clothing that will allow them to be involved in the activities planned each day. Clothing that is easy to manage encourages independence and self help. Many toileting accidents are prevented if children can unbuckle or unbutton pants without a struggle.

MEALS AND SNACKS
Meals and snacks are served to meet the nutritional requirements of the USDA. We serve breakfast, lunch and two snacks for children over 1 year of age. Parents of children under 1 year need to supply necessary food items. Infants will be fed according to their individual schedules. Gum and candy are not allowed to be brought into this facility. You may be asked to help provide treats for birthday parties and other celebrations. These treats must be bought commercially packaged, as edible homemade treats are a violation of County Health Standards.
Serena’s Magical Child Care requires all persons preparing and serving food to carry a current food handler’s permit.
